Hampton Court: Sleb spotting

The Lord of Cord, his eminence, Monty Don, in earnest conversation with .... I will have to watch the TV to find out.

Joe Swift plus suit carrier lackey, along with Rachel de Thame and entourage

My verdict? I would have been better of staying at home and watching it on TV. I will explain more tomorrow, too tired/irritable to write much now.

Not in for all that celeb stuff but oh MD now he is something to behold, or is my age catching up with me. Stop!! sure isn't he old enough to be my brother!! As for your day well......

Sure isn't that always the way! Even for Wimbledon[if you're a fan] I believe the atmosphere in my front room was far superior to that of the heated seats of centre court! Give me Hampton Court any day over Chelsea. Even if they were giving the tickets away for Chelsea I wouldn't go! That said I'm not surprised your tired and irritable and possibly dehydrated. Watching the weather forecast you guys are getting nice sunshine (envious....) - I'm not surprised your steaming!

Hi Ena,

Understand what you mean about Chelsea, I had tickets this year, but could not summon the enthusiasm to go, so gave them to another.

Hampton Court was one of my more favourite shows, but today it failed to live up to expectations. I think the Flower bit has been forgotten by the RHS, because to be honest, the area taken by the trade stalls completely overwhelmed the space given to show gardens etc. I'll write more about it tomorrow.

I am not into slebs either, although as you say, MD is rather nice, although having seen him a few times this year, and walked within brushing jackets distance at Malvern, I was disappointed to discover he isnt as tall as I had imagined. The reason I took these photos will become clear later in the week. I wanted to look at the gardens but .....

Did you talk with them - or is that for another post?

Did they know you are THE Zoe?

It all looks very civilised and peaceful there.

Esther - no - I am just an oik, albiet an oik with an opinion :-)

It wasn't very civilised or peaceful, lots of people ( me included) where getting a tad irritated with how long they closed areas off for filming and we aren't talking a few minutes.

I'd like to meet THE Zoe, she sounds an impressive creature

Indeed she is. She used to have a green and silver painted face, yes?

Judging from the back view, my guess would be that is Jon Wheatley, who co-designed the Edible Garden. He's a lovely chap, very modest. But I didn't see much of the Edible Garden either BECAUSE THEY WERE FILMING THERE WHEN I WAS THERE TOO!!!!! So annoying.
If you want to watch at home, here's a link to Jon Wheatley talking about the garden http://www.rhs.org.uk/Shows-Events/Hampton-Court-Palace-Flower-Show/2010/Video/Interview-with-Jon-Wheatley
I enjoyed Hampton Court, but I find it gets more and more tiring every year. Maybe I'm just getting old.
Love the way Monty's jacket tones with the lavender in your picture.

I got hot and tired too :(

I thought the floral marquee was much bigger this year - perhaps it was my imagination?

Have decided to spend much more time in the Plant Heritage marquee next time - loads to learn from the most expert of people :)

Hi VP,

plant Heritage marquee, def worth spending time in - so easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm for a plant though, so beware!

I wasn't sure about whether the Floral Marquee was bigger, or just more spaced out inside. Fewer exhibitors? Def an improvement though in terms of crowding.

As for running from TV cameras, agreed, but bliddy annoying when they hog the best exhibit for hours

PS I've also learned to run in the opposite direction of the TV cameras - the crowd gathers and the rest of the show becomes nicely deserted - hurrah!
