To Bee or not to bee ....

Me and some of my fellow students taking part in apiary training classes

Tonight, another dream came true - I phoned a bee-keeper that the nice gentleman who is allowing me to keep my hives in his orchard suggested to me.

I am now the proud keeper of several thousand honey bees.    My hives are going to be located in an orchard near home, and my bees will take up residence in their new hives later this week.  I wont get any honey this year, its too late in the season for a new colony to produce enough for  them and me, but it will allow me to learn at a slower pace as the colony grows, ready for a productive season next year.

I am filled with excitement and more than a little trepidation, but I am sure if I just stay calm, everything will be(e) alright.

Hi Zoe,

Great news re: the bees! I would love a few hives of my own but no time or space right now. One day in the future though. Keep us updated on how you get on and can I please put my name down in advance for a jar of honey?! x

P.S. Wanted to contact you but no idea how to? Pop me an email just to say hi :)

Oh what great news Zoe ! I can imagine your excitement - a couple of plot holders at my allotment site are waiting for bees to arrive any time now. They can't talk about anything else :) Hope that your colony thrives.

Hi Anna,

Thanks - I wish we were allowed to keep bees on our allotments, but the 'elf and safety police get there knickers in a twist whenever anyone mentions it. I am liable to become a bee bore too ;-)
