Helleborus x hybridus syn. Helleborus orientalis
Sorry for the silence, I have had a difficult few days. The iGit's Mum fell and broke her hip last Friday whilst out in Swanage getting fish and chips. She had surgery on Sunday, when they plated the femur and stuck her back together. Unbelievably, they sent her home last night! Tnankfully at the moment, the iGit's sister is able to be with her, as being 10 years older, she is already retired and can be more flexible. Obviously we are going to have to work out some longer term arrangement. The costs of petrol alone are enough to make you wince, running around between here, Poole and Swanage.
As far as we know, no visits for Physio or from the District nurse have been arranged, and SIL is expected to administer DVT busting drugs, having no previous medical experience! Pretty staggered by the NHS's attitude to be honest, yes she may have impressed them with her guts and willingness to get out of bed and mobile, but she is 90 this summer, and none of us live closer than 2 hours away! Time will tell anyway - challenging times ahead.
I've also been in a huge amount of pain. My sense of humour top-up were 6 weeks late apparently the fault of the snow and various hospital infections meaning many procedures were cancelled in December and January. The net result of this was I became increasingly depressed, and am now on a drug regime of antidepressants and painkillers that would floor an elephant. This is on top of the cancer and high blood pressure and diabetes drugs. I positively rattle! Anyway, that's on the improve too, as on Wednesday I went into the hospital for the day and had several injections and a caudal epidural into my spine, containing steroids and long acting painkillers, so mobility and sleep have been restored. I just need to catch up.
Tomorrow is Chicken Day - I am so very excited, I collect them from the Farm at 2.30pm.

The hellebore reminds me of blackcurrant juice mixed with cream.
Best wishes.
